Berkeley J Camp ThemesSummer Camp Educational Fun? camp Tikkun Olam - Repair of the WorldSESSION 1 THEME:Building Community - June 26th- July 21stHow can we better ourselves, contribute to our community, and improve the world around us? This session will incorporate activities that help us to answer these questions. Drawing from the concept of Tikkun Olam in Jewish heritage and stories, we will put into practice the idea that giving is more fun than receiving- through activities like planting trees, cooking for loved ones, and sharing food from our gardens. Campers will also have a chance to see examples of Tikkun Olam in the community by meeting with guest speakers, visiting community gardens, and learning at the Shorebird Nature Center. SESSION 2 THEME:A World of Peace - July 24th- August 18thHow can we learn to build a world of peace, starting within our own summer camp community? This session will incorporate ideas and activities that promote peace among our smaller community and ways to encourage a peaceful world for our future. Campers will explore ways of promoting peace in the world by meeting people who are actively working for peace and visiting places that are working on creating peaceful solutions to conflicts. This session will also communicate with other children who are working for peace in the world.
